A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman was found with serious injuries at a house near Geraldton on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to a property in Melbourne Street, Waggrakine at around 6.25pm ​​following reports of a disturbance taking place inside.

When St John WA Police and Paramedics arrived they found a woman in her 40s with serious injuries.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene, but she died as a result of her injuries.

A 21-year-old man was located at the house before being taken into custody.

The Spalding man was charged with murder by homicide detectives Saturday afternoon.

He is due to appear at Perth Magistrates’ Court on Sunday.

A Washington police spokesman said both parties knew each other and the investigation was ongoing.

The home remained cordoned off Saturday while officers awaited the arrival of homicide and forensics investigators.

A woman who said she knew the victim arrived in tears and appeared to be in shock. She was seen hugging another woman who arrived soon after.

A mobile police station and several police cars were stationed outside the property on Saturday morning.
