It completed a remarkable undefeated season for North, the first in women’s or men’s history.
But that wasn’t the only piece of history to be written on one monumental night.

Burch, who wears the number 2, was called up first to receive her medal and the Auskik youngster had a special message for her on the podium.
“That’s three, Libby,” she said.
Burch was immediately surprised by the comment, but quickly thanked her and hugged the young fan.
“So many emotions, first and foremost what a great performance by our girls today,” Birch told Channel 7 after the game.
“We were incredible from start to finish and to be first unbeaten is an achievement in itself.
I’ve had the privilege of being part of three incredible teams and achieving ultimate success, so I feel very privileged as an athlete.
“I feel like the fat three team experience helps me bring some experience to the site tonight.”
Burch also spoke about his decision to join North Melbourne in last year’s trade period.
“I think (Coach) Darren’s honesty in the first meeting I had and what they were looking for just fit perfectly. The people they had at the club when I first came in, the future they were looking for, the type of team they wanted to be, it seemed right.
“From the first meeting after their grand final loss last year on Tuesday, I just wanted to be there and it was the best decision of my life and I loved every minute of it.”
