It also already beats the more expensive one Jeep Compass, Skoda Kamik and Suzuki S-Cross in year-to-date figures with 1,099 sales. It managed to achieve this feat against Jeep and Suzuki in just one full month.
Chery says it expects the Tiggo 4 Pro to be its best-seller in 2025. It’s the cheapest Chery, priced at $23,990 drive away.
With 1,762 sales, Chery also overtook BYD (1,552 sales) in the monthly tally for the first time.
The caveats here are that BYD is still significantly ahead YTD (18,465 sales vs. 10,718 sales), while Chery probably only has one direct competitor for a BYD product so far.
This is the electric Omoda E5, which is similar in size and price to the BYD Ato 3.
Although Chery has previously indicated that it plans to introduce plug-in hybrid versions of its Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro Max here, they are yet to be launched locally to go head-to-head with BYD’s popular new Stamp 6.
This model was BYD’s best-selling vehicle with 847 sold in November – 54.6 percent of the brand’s total.
Both Chery and BYD are recent entrants to the Australian market, although the former had a presence here – through distributor Ateco – in the early 2010s.
BYD effectively relaunched here in 2022. with the Atto 3 after some earlier efforts to sell the e6 vehicle and the T3 van.
It started shipping the Atto 3 in September 2022, with Chery starting shipping the Omoda 5 in April 2023.
