Chelsea score!

Southampton conceded one. Axel Disasi born.

Six minutes later and Newcastle have the best possession of the ball. They win a free kick but it falls into the hands of Kelleher.

Newcastle came close!

After a minute, Tomali saves Kelleher. Corner for Newcastle but it comes to nothing. Good start for NFC.

19:30: START

Four games to go!

My man in the crowd at the Emirates (that’s you Ian) isn’t too happy with Arsenal’s line-up:

“Relatively weak defense for Arsenal so I think we’ll concede. Just hope our attacking players score more than we conceded!”.

Goodbye John Doherty

As Brentford take on Aston Villa, the Bees are also mourning the passing of John Doherty – a former manager and player who died today aged 84. Doherty also managed Millwall, taking them into the old Division One.

Everyone in Brentford is deeply saddened by the passing of John Doherty, aged 84.

John had a four-decade association with the club as a player, manager and coach.

He won promotion as a player in 1971/72 and was inducted into our Hall of Fame last month.

Rest in peace Doc. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/Gp4Bu15nZZ

Last game of the evening to mention sees Aston Villa I take over Brentford in the late(r) kickoff. We’ll be watching him too.

Villa have not won a football match since October. They also hope that global eyes will spur them on.

Back to the blue side of LiverpoolEverton v Wolves. Both are at the bottom of the table.

Sean Dyche knows he is under pressure to improve his team’s performance.

“Me, my staff and the players, sometimes we don’t do as well as we could, but we work tirelessly, I can assure you. It’s the biggest job I’ve done in all my years in charge of this football club, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Meanwhile, the Wolves welcome a global audience – are you watching Greater Fort Lauderdale?

To Southampton from the bottom of the table who face a Chelsea side who have shone of late and are now third.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca is taking nothing for granted.

“The moment we lose games there will be doubts – I know how it works.”

“It’s difficult to continue the whole season the way we are now. There will certainly come another time and we have to manage that and deal with that.”

To the Emirates and Arsenal v Man United

Ruben Amorim leads his side in North London after a 4-0 win over Everton. And Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is cautious.

“You can see his fingerprints in what he wants to do straight away,” Arteta said. “He was very clear about what he wanted to do. What he did with Sporting was remarkable after so many years. Especially the way he did it and the way his teams play. It brings energy to a new club and to the players, which is always positive. But we have to focus on what we are doing.”

Meanwhile, Amorim heaps praise on Arteta.

“Sometimes coaches are judged not only for the titles, but also for what he did Arsenal it’s amazing.

“It transformed the team. He bought some youngsters who are now the big talents in this country. I hope I have the same mindset as him in the tough times because I followed Premier League for a long time.”

Pep G and Man City host Nottingham Forest

There is pressure on the City manager. If his side don’t emerge victorious tonight, Pep will go eight games without a win. That’s eight fingers!

By the way – he was talking about his six finger gesture Liverpool fans at Anfield after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat.

“This [Guardiola’s gesture] it was just to make our fans feel that what we’ve done is extraordinary,” he says. “I want to prove that we are an amazing football club. Sooner or later the end will come [of City’s success]but I will try to extend as much as possible for the good of my club.”

Newcastle face leaders Liverpool

It’s still a while before it all kicks off, but it’s worth keeping an eye on a few interviews that are making the news.

Louise Taylor has an interesting insight into the problems at St James’ Park – with Eddie Howe talking about the problems at the club.

Howe: “We had a lot of problems this summer and we continue to have them.

“We are not in our best shape. I’ve had a few meetings with all the players to try and get them to their best level to sort out any little issues we might have.”

“Without talking about personalities, you need your best players at their best levels,” Howe said rather pointedly.

Is he pointing to the lackluster performances of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isaac and Anthony Gordon?

“The squad we have is very good,” Howe said. “It’s our job to handle him better. I am confident in the players and I am confident in our working methods. I have no doubt that we will find our touch again.” Maybe tonight?

So here’s what we’re watching tonight:

Arsenal vs Man United (KO 8.15)

Aston Villa v Brentford (KO 8.15)

Everton v Wolverhampton (KO 7.30)

Man City vs Notham Forest (KO 7.30)

Newcastle vs Liverpool (KO 7.30)

Southampton vs Chelsea (KO 7.30)

And here is the table as it stands

Hello, good evening, afternoon or morning depending on where in the world you may be reading this.

Good news – we have six Premier League games tonight. Six!

So many plots and subplots. It’s like one of those Christopher Nolan movies – but all about football.

The questions I ask are: will Pep Guardiola have enough fingers (and toes) to count his team’s defeats by Christmas? Will Eddie Howe stop a soar Liverpool and can resurgent Manchester United beat Arsenal at the Emirates? Many questions.
